Santa Clarita Valley, California. Siblings and animal trainers Otis “OJ” and Emerald Haywood, the young owners of the Haywood Hollywood horse-training business, find themselves struggling to keep their family ranch afloat after the death of their father in a freak accident.
While pondering the thought of finally selling the business to the nearby theme park manager Jupe, OJ becomes witness to a strange object in the sky. While he is not too fond of that discovery, his sister sees it as a chance to save their business by capturing video evidence of the alleged UFO and selling it to the media. However, the next time the otherworldly visitor returns, the ambitious investigators find themselves in front of a completely new kind of horror.
After his previous movies „Get Out” and “Us”, director Jordan Peele once again delivers a movie that is way less interested in spooking the audience with scary monsters, and much more in carefully showing the mundane horrors already present in everyday society (although dialed up significantly). In this case, the horror of spectacle, and the destructive power our craving in experiencing it can create.
A truly chilling experience with an unexpected twist on the old “UFO”-movie genre.
