Richard Williams‘ daughters are growing up in Compton, California. Their days consist of schoolwork and a lot of training from their father, who has a plan for them. According to a precise schedule, he wants to lead Venus and Serena to the top of the tennis world. Of course, this path is not entirely smooth, and his unconventional views and training methods cause a stir in the professional tennis world. The relationship between the two girls and their father was never an easy one either, as can be seen repeatedly throughout the film and their coming of age.

„King Richard“ shows how a good plan can work out perfectly, that it still takes a lot of willpower and stamina to reach the top of the sport and how important role models can be to believe in oneself. Will Smith delivers probably the best acting performance of his career.
