If you’ve enjoyed “Poor Things“ from our last semester’s program, you’ll want to check out “Kinds of Kindness“, also directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Lanthimos is well known for his weird and artistic style which he brings to screen again with this new anthology film. The Greek director tells three distinct stories, each featuring an ensemble of renowned Hollywood actors who are proving their impressive acting range once more.
The three plotlines are only interconnected by the theme of people showing kindness which you might think makes it a wholesome movie but this kindness can also be toxic and dangerous in a twisted way.
There is the story of a very obedient man following each and every order from his boss just to show his affection. There is the story of a husband mourning his missing wife; but after her return, she seems to have changed in a very weird way, challenging their relationship. And finally there is the story of an ambitious woman searching for someone who can reanimate the dead as a new member for her religious cult.
“Kinds of Kindness“ can only be described as a very weird movie which might not hook every audience at first. However if you’re ready to leave your comfort zone and experience a unique, weird and special trip, you should definitely give this bizarre movie a chance. (SiL)
