Astronaut Ryland Grace (Gosling) awakens on a spaceship many lightyears away with retrograde amnesia. The former middle-school science teacher slowly realises the scale and purpose of the mission he was sent on by “Hail Mary” project head Eva Stratt (Hüller). Steering towards the Tau Ceti system, Grace uncovers he is not alone in the wide universe when he encounters an alien life-form that seems to have a fate similar to his own.

“Project Hail Mary“ brings together the finest of Hollywood in every aspect. Actors Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller, directors Lord and Miller from the Spider-Verse-Franchise, writer Drew Goodard of “The Martian”, cameraman Greig Fraser of “Dune” and a score by Daniel Pemberton. Truly ambitious, Amazon MGM’s most expensive film to date seeks to follow in the 2010s sci-fi footsteps of “Gravity”, “Interstellar” or “Arrival”, while bringing in the comedic talent of Ryan Gosling. At the time of writing, early reviews give universal acclaim to the film. (SP)
