This colorful ride of a film is for everybody who loves music and especially for fans of David Bowie.
Brett Morgan’s film consists of fragments of Bowie’s life and work, music videos, interviews, concert recordings as well as interviews with fans.
To get these partly previously unpublished materials for the film, Morgen spent four years browsing the private archives of Bowie. Together with Bowie’s long-time friend and collaborator Visconti and sound engineer Massey, he remixed the found original recordings and processed the images. It is a true eye candy. Colorful, psychedelic, crazy, spaced out like the works of Bowie.
Morgen is not interested in the usual chronology of music documentaries. This may make the film a little confusing at the beginning, but it gives a new perspective to the clips shown. With the pictures we follow the life of Bowie mostly chronologically. The assigned recordings in which Bowie talks about them, on the other hand, are a colorful mix from various eras of his life and thus also provide insights into how he assesses his works from earlier times.
