SUMMARY:The Phoenician Scheme (OmU)
DESCRIPTION:Anatole „Zsa-Zsa“ Korda\, a businessman of enormous riches and questionable morals\, has just survived his umpteenth assassination attempt. Inspired by this near-death experience\, he decides to put his affairs in order and bequeaths his empire to his estranged daughter Liesl\, a nun in training. Liesl is not particularly taken with this new turn in her life but nevertheless accompanies her father on a mission to Phoenicia\, where they promptly become the target of scheming tycoons\, foreign terrorists and determined assassins.\n“The Phoenician Scheme” could be described as Wes Anderson’s attempt at a spy movie\, delivered in his usual signature style of symmetrical compositions\, vibrant colors\, and dead-pan delivery of verbal delicacies. But a core difference separates this movie from his recent works: “The Phoenician Scheme” isn’t an ensemble piece. Instead\, Anderson presents the viewer with a character-driven drama that is particularly focused on the delicate relationship between the gruff Zsa-Zsa and his daughter. Seeing the bond between them evolve alongside Zsa-Zsa’s own personality and moral compass gives the movie a distinct purpose and direction that I haven’t witnessed in Anderson’s work since “Isle of Dogs.” A delightful experience for fans of this director and lovers of absurd storytelling alike. DESCRIPTION:Visit us on the sad 5-year anniversary of January 6 when we delve into the early story of the central figure behind it all: Donald Trump.\n“The Apprentice” is a biographical drama directed by Ali Abbasi that shows Trump’s (Sebastian Stan) rise to power as a real-estate prodigy and media figure\, complete with all the insane schemes and blackmail going on behind it all\, mainly from the early seventies to the late eighties. An especially important focus for the movie therein lies in the relationship between Trump and his mentor Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong)\, a scrupulous lawyer and prosecutor first gaining infamy by being closely associated with Joseph McCarthy during the Red Scare. It is shown how Cohn decisively influenced Trumps mannerisms and public appearance\, teaching him his “three rules” one can still observe to this day: 1. Always attack\, 2. Never admit wrongdoing\, and 3. Ensnared by its magic\, Jack devises a plan: he will take Christmas for himself!\nI don’t think this legendary stop-motion flick needs a grand introduction (aside from maybe stressing that the film’s director is\, in fact\, not Tim Burton\, but Henry Selick. You know\, the guy who made Coraline?). This musical is a timeless classic of Christmas Storytelling\, with an art design that’s just as iconic as its beautiful soundtrack by Danny Elfman. DESCRIPTION:Auch dieses Jahr zeigt der Hochschulfilmclub zusammen mit dem Fachgebiet Kunststofftechnik\, dem Fachschaftsrat Maschinenbau\, dem Studierendenrat und dem FKTI den Kultstreifen „Die Feuerzangenbowle“ in der schönen Vorweihnachtszeit.\nJeder Student kennt die Geschichte des legendären Dr. Johannes Pfeiffer (nur echt mit drei f)\, der noch einmal die Schulbank drückt. In angeheiterter Herrenrunde bei Feuerzangenbowle erzählen sich die Honoratioren von ihren Schulstreichen. Der junge Schriftsteller Pfeiffer wurde als Kind „nur“ von einem Privatlehrer unterrichtet und kann demnach bei diesen Geschichten nicht mithalten. So beschließt er eine Rückkehr an die Schule – und zwar als Schüler. Als Primaner getarnt erlebt er alles\, was zu einer richtigen Schülerkarriere gehört. Angefangen bei unzähligen Klassenbucheinträgen\, über eine schwatzhafte Zimmerwirtin\, gnadenlos bimmelnde Wecker zu unmöglichen Uhrzeiten und einsame Zeiten im Karzer bis hin zur Schülerliebe mit dem Namen Eva.\nDamit ihr dabei nicht verdursten müsst\, gibt es natürlich wieder passend zum Film echte Feuerzangenbowle.\nAber: „Jeder nor einen wönzigen Schlock“! Otherwise\, the dragon king and his army of sea demons will destroy Ne Zha’s home in Chentang Pass…\nBefore I begin this review\, I would like to clarify that I don’t know much about Chinese mythology or culture and thus am totally unfit to evaluate this movie under these aspects. But what I know a lot about is animation\, be it from the US\, Asia or Europe. And what I can tell you is that this is one of the best\, if not THE best looking animated film I have seen in the last few years. “Ne Zha 2” may lack the impeccable vibe of the “Spider-verse” or the beautiful animation style of “Puss in Boots” or „Arcane“\, but it makes up for that with some of the most breathtaking action and effects I have ever witnessed in the CGI world. Every time you think it can’t become more bombastic\, this movie surpasses itself. And that’s on top of the humorous and easy to follow storytelling\, which often has more emotional depth than it initially appears. This movie is a milestone in Chinese animation and truly deserves it’s immense international success. However\, this circumstance helps immensely in empathizing with the journalists trying to somehow process the unverified information coming in from outside into a coherent story before the competition gets the scoop. The good and bad decisions made in such an atmosphere are expertly highlighted\, as are the inevitable consequences that result from them. Auf der Suche nach seiner Vergangenheit stolpert er in ein Geflecht aus Intrigen an der Universität und findet sich unverhofft als Anführer einer Studierendenrevolte wieder. \nErneut wurde von Studierenden unserer TU Ilmenau ein kompletter Spielfilm im Rahmen der zweijährigen Ilmpressions Filmproduktion unter dem Dach der Forschungsgemeinschaft elektronische Medien e.V. (FeM) produziert. Die Premierenvorstellung dieses hochwertig produzierten Films\, bei welchem auch einige der Darsteller\, sowie große Teile der Crew\, anwesend sein werden\, wird am 12. Juli im Audimax stattfinden. Alle Beteiligten hatten dadurch die Möglichkeit sich an einem großen Filmprojekt zu beweisen\, neue Erfahrungen in den verschiedensten Bereichen einer professionellen Filmproduktion zu sammeln oder bereits  vorhandene Kenntnisse zu vertiefen. DESCRIPTION:Fresh out of rehab\, Rona (Saoirse Ronan) returns to the Orkney Islands – a place full of childhood memories and breathtaking landscapes. But the beautiful scenery and kind-hearted people are not the only thing that awaits Rona. She also has to face her traumatic past\, deal with her difficult family situation and stay away from alcohol\, the substance which once consumed her life and nearly destroyed it. \nWith “The Outrun“\, German director Nora Fingscheidt (“System Crasher“) once again proves her talent of telling authentic stories and portraying difficult characters. This time she deals with topics such as alcoholism and bipolar disorder\, and has the great luck of having such a fantastic actress as Saoirse Ronan to play the main part. \nAdapted from Amy Liptrots acclaimed memoir\, who also co-wrote the screenplay\, you could say that the film is quite autobiographical and therefore feels highly authentic. \nBut also Fingscheidts sensitive direction and Ronans nuanced acting make this movie a deeply moving\, human and cinematic experience\, especially recommendable for everyone who likes down-to-earth character dramas and great acting. You get “Kneecap“ — a film that breaks all the rules\, blending raw energy\, dark humor\, and cultural defiance into a cinematic experience like no other. This isn’t just another music biopic. It’s two films in one: a wild\, often hilarious story of a band on the rise and a powerful statement on the fight for Irish language recognition. \nThe story might take some necessary liberties but it doesn’t sugarcoat it. Móglaí Bap\, Mo Chara\, and DJ Próvaí play themselves\, bringing an authenticity that no actor could replicate. The film dives headfirst into the rebellious spirit of the band — complete with plenty of alcohol\, drug use\, tons of swear words and unapologetic political statements. But beneath the madness\, there’s a deeper message: a reflection on identity\, language as both a political tool and a cultural lifeline\, and the legacy of British rule in Northern Ireland. \nIf you’re looking for a conventional biopic\, I hope you saw A Complete Unknown because this isn’t it.
